Collection: Hindu God Shiva

Who is Shiva- Shiva (the auspicious one), Mahadeva (the great god), and Adiyogi (primordial ascetic) are names in Hinduism for the mighty destroyer god, the father of the lord of fortune- Ganesha, and the husband of goddess Uma-Parvati. From the Vedic period onwards, Shiva is a potent deity in Hindu culture, worshipped as the destroyer of death, fear, and darkness by devotees known as Shaivas or Nayanars.

Statues of Shiva- The representations of Shiva are divided in Puranas into- Nirguna (formless) and Saguna (one that has a form). His Nirguna aspect is the most popular Lingam or Shiva Lingam, made usually in metal and stone and worshipped with Abhishekam (water offering), aarti, mantra jap (recital of mantra) and other rituals. The Nataraja icon, Ardhanarishvara Shiva, Shiva Parivaar, Shiva as Yogi, Bhairava (a fearsome aspect of Shiva), Dakshinamurty Shiva, Uma-Maheshwara (Shiva with Parvati), Panchamukhi (five-headed) Shiva, are a few popular forms of the god, sculpted in brass, bronze, wood and stone by Indian artists, condensing the aura of Shiva in pure and precious materials.

Why Buy a Shiva Statue- A Shiva Lingam is the most powerful form of Shiva, placed in temples of devotees for regular worship and Abhishekam. Another prized Shiva statue, the Nataraja sculpture where Shiva dances majestically in a ring of cosmic fire, makes for an artistic central piece for large spaces, lobbies of hotels, and halls of villas. Uma-Maheshwara and Shiva Parivaar icons are symbols of conjugal bliss and familial bonds and are prescribed by Vaastu experts to ensure a happy home.
